Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a web site (or a page on a website) in search engines through the natural or un-paid search results – also known as organic or algorithmic search results.

SEO can target things like location-based search, image search and video search. SEO may involve making the website content more search-engine friendly or changing the HTML code in order to allow the site to be indexed by search engines.

To put it simply, there are two main parts to all search engines: the crawler and the algorithm. The crawler, which is sometimes referred to as a spider, is what goes out on the web and fetches all the pages of information that it can get. The algorithm is basically the ranking formula that each search engine uses to control the relevancy of any page that the crawler finds applicable.

Unfortunately, you always get that one bad apple in the barrel don’t you? This translates into white hat SEO and black hat SEO – the yin and yang of the online world. Or, in Matrix terms, the Neo and the Mr. Smith.

White hat SEO takes longer to achieve web presence than black hat SEO, but the effects last longer as black hat SEO sites are shut down as soon as they’re found. For white hat SEO, it’s all about creating quality content and making the page accessible to spiders rather than attempting to hoodwink the algorithm. Black hat SEO is all about paying for links to your site, hidden text and keyword stuffing. Black hat SEO will often get your site penalised by search engines.

Lucky for you, Brash is a Jedi rather than a Sith. Brash is all about the white hat SEO and we’re pretty damn good at getting web presence for businesses. With 16 billion online searches every month, you need a bit of Brash about you.
